# We start off with soccer: Mamelodi Sundowns secured their second CAF Champions League title by playing to a 1-all draw against AS FAR in the second leg of the final in Rabat, Morocco. This was enough to give the 2016 champions a 2-1 aggregate win after they defeated the Moroccan side 1-0 in the first leg in Pretoria last weekend. By winning, Sundowns have secured a place in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup. Captain Ronwen Williams says they deserve this:
# Rugby: Springbok Sevens player, Ronald Brown, has been ruled out of the Sevens World Championship tournaments in Spain and France due to injury. Ricardo Duarttee, who was a member of the victorious squads in Cape Town and Perth, was called up to the travelling group that departed for Europe yesterday. Blitzboks coach Philip Snyman had already recalled Gino Cupido and Dewald Human. South Africa won the first of three events in Hong Kong last month and is leading the standings that will determine the overall winner early next month.
# Cricket: The Indian Premier League moves to the playoff stage this week. Defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Gujarat Titans, who finished first and second respectively in the league stage, will play each other in qualifier one in Dharamsala tomorrow. The winner will progress straight to Sunday’s final in Ahmedabad. The loser will get another chance of reaching the final on Friday, when they face the winner of Wednesday’s eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals in New Chandigarh.
# Tennis: Third-seeded Novak Djokovic kicked off his quest for a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title with victory in the first round of the French Open. The Serbian beat Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Seventh-seeded Taylor Fritz was stunned by fellow American Nishesh Basavareddy. Germany’s Alexander Zverev started his campaign with a victory over France’s Benjamin Bonz. In the women’s draw, British number one Emma Raducanu suffered a first-round defeat to Argentina’s Solana Sierra.
# And motorsport: Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli has extended his lead in the Formula One Drivers’ Championship to 43 points by winning the Canadian Grand Prix. This is the Italian’s fourth consecutive victory. Teammate George Russell, who started on pole, retired due to a power unit issue. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton finished second for Ferrari with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen third. Antonelli says this is not really how he wanted to win:
