# The DA in the Western Cape maintains that safety requires SAPS to implement targeted structural interventions by expanding investigative powers to provinces and municipalities. The latest police crime statistics for the fourth quarter show that murders in the province decreased by 8-percent, from one-thousand-68 cases between January and March last year to 983 cases in same period this year. The DA’s  Benedicta van Minnen says high-crime neighbourhoods remain volatile because national policing deficits continue to bottleneck long-term safety efforts:
