# The Gauteng Department of Health is concerned about a sharp rise in hypertension cases, especially among adults under 45-years of age. More than 69-thousand new cases were recorded in the province over the past year, with over 26-thousand amongst younger people. Spokesperson Steve Mabona says lifestyle factors such as stress, poor diet, lack of exercise, obesity and alcohol use are driving the increase. Authorities are urging to have regular screening done and pursue healthier habits as hypertension remains a leading cause of stroke and heart disease.
