# The Judicial Service Commission clarifies Judge Belinda Hartle is not suspended but investigated
# And, the NSRI warns of dangerous tides at Robberg Beaches
# Former police officer and alleged rhino poaching syndicate mastermind Joseph Nyalungu has been shot and killed in Mpumalanga. Reports say Nyalungu was attacked at his business premises near Mkhuhlu Crossroads, just over a week after surviving a previous shooting at the same location. The controversial alleged underworld figure operated in and around the Kruger National Park. He faced multiple charges linked to rhino poaching, organised crime and explosives. Police have not yet confirmed arrests, and investigations into the killing are continuing.
# Inkatha Freedom Party leader Velenkosini Hlabisa says the party is determined to help restore Johannesburg as a functional and thriving city. Speaking at the party’s mayoral campaign launch in Soweto, Hlabisa described Johannesburg as South Africa’s economic hub and gateway to the continent. Hlabisa says if Johannesburg works, the country’s economy will also improve. He added that the IFP wants to focus resources, leadership and manpower on strengthening service delivery:
# The Judicial Service Commission says Eastern Cape High Court Judge Belinda Hartle remains in her position while investigations continue. JSC spokesperson Sesi Baloyi says reports suggesting otherwise were incorrect, adding that only president Cyril Ramaphosa has the authority to suspend a judge after receiving a recommendation from the commission. She emphasised to SABC News that the JSC has recommended a tribunal to investigate allegations against Judge Hartle:
# The National Sea Rescue Institute has urged beachgoers to exercise extreme caution along Robberg beaches in Plettenberg Bay due to unusually high tides. The NSRI says new moon spring tides have created hazardous conditions, worsened by recent flooding that caused severe beach erosion and unstable sand embankments. Authorities are advising the public to monitor tide times closely and avoid risky areas along the coastline. The warning comes as emergency services continue assessing damage following the inclement weather last week.
# Soccer: Orlando Pirates suffered a Premiership title setback after a goalless draw with Durban City at Orlando Stadium yesterday. Pirates dominated possession and created several chances but were repeatedly denied by the Durban City defence and goalkeeper Fredrick Asare. The result leaves them two points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou says his team must win their last match against Orbit College FC to keep their title hopes alive:
# And, Golf: Gerhard Pepler maintained a two-stroke lead at 17-under par 72 during the third round of the Pro-Am tournament at Irene Country Club, despite a challenging first nine holes. Heading into the final round, Pepler faces intense pressure from compatriots Christiaan Burke, Jaco Prinsloo, and Wales’ Jack Davidson, who all surged into a tie for second place at 15-under par. The 26-year-old Pepler remains the clear favorite as he hunts for his second career Sunshine Tour victory.
