# Julius Malema calls for president Cyril Ramaphosa’s resignation after the ConCourt ruling
# SANParks teams race to restore access after the Garden Route flooding
# And, South Africa marks 30 years of constitutional democracy
# EFF leader Julius Malema says president Cyril Ramaphosa must resign following the Constitutional Court ruling that declared Parliament’s impeachment Rule 129 (i) unconstitutional in the Phala Phala farm theft. Malema argues the matter is serious and should not be political. He insists Parliament must proceed with urgency despite the high threshold required for impeachment. He also hailed ANC National Executive Committee member Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma for holding her stance:
# Severe weather has caused major disruption across the Garden Route National Park in the Western Cape, with flooding, heavy rain and strong winds damaging roads and infrastructure. In the Wilderness and Knysna sections, several roads remain blocked by fallen trees and mudslides, while hiking trails and recreational activities are closed. South African National Parks’ JP Louw says teams are clearing debris, restoring access and ensuring the safety of visitors and nearby communities:
# The MK Party Women’s League says it is concerned about the allegations against minister of Social Development, Sisisi Tolashe, related to the mistreatment and financial exploitation of a domestic worker. A woman employed by the department as a food aide was allegedly forced to perform domestic work and pay half her salary to the minister’s daughter. The MK Party Women’s League secretary, Lindi Mtshali, says Parliament’s portfolio committee on Social Development must prioritise an inquiry into this matter:
# Olympics: Four world-class cities will host the Olympic Q-Series, formerly the Olympic Qualifier Series, in an expanded format leading up to the 2028 Los Angeles Games. The International Olympic Committee has confirmed Tokyo in Japan, Shanghai in China, Montreal in Canada and US city Orlando will each host one stop of the series between May and June. I-O-C president Kirsty Coventry says it serves as key qualification pathway to the Games:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-40-cents against the rand and the euro at 19-rand-30-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-32-cents and Bitcoin trades at 79-thousand-853-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-722-dollars-31-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 99-dollars-52-cents a barrel.
# And finally, today marks 30 years since the adoption of South Africa’s Constitution by the Constitutional Assembly in 1996 and later signed into law by former president Nelson Mandela. The milestone celebrates the country’s transition from apartheid to a constitutional democracy based on human rights, equality, and the rule of law. The Constitution remains the foundation of governance in the country. Government is reflecting on progress made, while also acknowledging ongoing challenges such as poverty, inequality, and unemployment.
