Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# Police investigate NCC leader Fadiel Adams over interference in a murder probe
# The GOOD Party continues to call for accountability for the George building collapse
# And golf: Tiger Woods is unlikely to play in the US Open or the US Senior Open
# The police’s political killings task team is urging National Coloured Congress leader, Fadiel Adams, to hand himself over at a police station. A warrant has been issued for his arrest on charges of fraud and defeating the ends of justice linked to the 2017 murder probe of ANC councillor for Umzimkhulu Municipality, Sindiso Magaqa. Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe say Adams failed to appear in court and ignored arrangements to surrender:
# The GOOD Party continues to call for accountability for the George building collapse in the Western Cape. Tomorrow will mark two years since 34 people were killed and 28 injured when a five-storey development collapsed. GOOD’s Chantelle Kyd says the police investigation was completed at the beginning of February and the docket handed to the National Prosecuting Authority, but no-one had been arrested since and there is limited public communication:
# Taxi organisations CATA and CODETA have pledged to end long-standing violence over route disputes in Cape Town. The two organisations met at the Nyanga taxi rank. CODETA chairperson Nceba Enge says the agreement reflects a serious commitment to peace, while CATA chairperson Nkululeko Sityebi stressed differences must be resolved through dialogue and not violence. The feud has led to deadly shootings in areas including Nyanga, Delft, Lwandle and Khayelitsha.
# The South African Local Government Association has urged municipalities across several provinces to activate preparedness and response measures. This follows a warning by the South African Weather Service of an intense cut-off low-pressure system expected to affect large parts of the country between today and Thursday. This includes heavy rain and windy conditions. SALGA spokesperson Motalatale Modiba says municipalities must act urgently to minimise the potential impact:
# Golf: US Golf Association CEO Mike Whan says it’s highly unlikely that 15-time major champion, Tiger Woods, will play at either the US Open or US Senior Open. The 50-year-old is reportedly receiving treatment in Switzerland after being charged with driving under the influence following a car crash in Florida in March. Whan says what Woods is going through is much bigger than the game. The US Open takes place at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York, in June.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-79-cents against the rand and the euro at 19-rand-62-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-73-cents and Bitcoin trades at 80-thousand-697-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-558-dollars-97-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 111-dollars-11-cents a barrel.
