# The Western Cape Department of Local Government has unveiled a new plan aimed at improving basic services for indigent households. Based on its updated basket of services study, the plan proposes increasing free water and electricity levels and recognising internet access as an essential service. Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning MEC Anton Bredell says further consultations are underway before finalising a phased rollout to ensure the changes are affordable and sustainable.
