Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# ActionSA requests a probe into the defiance of president Ramaphosa’s orders
# Minister Gwarube will visit Eldorado Park to highlight school safety today
# And the Canadian prime minister says Greenland’s future is for Denmark and Greenland to decide
# ActionSA says it rejects the board of inquiry established by Defence minister Angie Motshekga to investigate Iran’s participation in the BRICS naval drills in Cape Town. This comes after president Cyril Ramaphosa ordered Iran’s withdrawal from the exercise, after being alerted by the US Embassy about how badly Iran’s participation would be viewed in Washington. ActionSA’s Lerato Ngobeni says reports indicate a coordinated and deliberate failure to comply with a direct command issued by the president in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief:
# The MK Party says it rejects the narrative advanced by former president Thabo Mbeki, which seeks to portray the party as a creation of counter-revolutionary forces allegedly rooted in apartheid-era security structures. The party’s spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, says Mbeki’s narrative is not supported by evidence but is a ploy to avoid confronting the political reality that millions of South Africans have consciously withdrawn consent from the ANC. He adds that the MK Party is not a counter-voluntary project, but a democratic consequence.
# Basic Education minister Siviwe Gwarube will lead a Back-to-School engagement at Eldorado Park Secondary School in Gauteng today. The focus will be on safety, anti-bullying and the prevention of gender-based violence in schools. The department’s spokesperson, Terence Khala, says the minister’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that schools are safe and are inclusive spaces conducive to teaching and learning:
# Canadian prime minister Mark Carney says his country will always support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries, including Greenland. US President Donald Trump has repeatedly insisted that America must acquire Greenland for national security and to prevent Russia or China from gaining control. He also threatened to impose new taxes on eight European countries if they continue to oppose his proposed takeover of Greenland. Carney says the decision on who owns Greenland doesn’t belong to Trump:
# Cricket: The Sunrisers Eastern Cape beat defending champions MI Cape Town by seven wickets in their SA20 clash in Gqeberha. Reeza Hendricks’ unbeaten 70 anchored MI Cape Town to 148 for six. In reply, Quinton de Kock shared a 109-run partnership for the second wicket with Matthew Breetzke as the Sunrisers reached the target with a ball to spare. The result ensured the Sunrisers a top-two finish and eliminated MI Cape Town, who needed to win with a bonus point to have a chance of reaching the playoffs.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-40-cents and the euro at 19-rand-6-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-96-cents, and Bitcoin trades at 92-thousand-612-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-659-dollars-30-cents a fine ounce, and Brent crude oil is quoted at 63-dollars-66-cents a barrel.
