# The Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court has postponed the case against Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock’s alleged murderer, Victor Majola, to next Tuesday for a formal bail application. Stock was assassinated outside the Zambezi building in the city on Reconciliation Day. Forty-four-year-old Majola faces charges of premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Stock’s sister, Nicole, says the family appeals for prayers and support:
# The National Student Financial Aid Scheme has extended the university-led allowance distribution system. Monthly remittance reports must be submitted detailing student payments. Accommodation allowances for students in private housing will be paid directly to accredited providers. Acting board chairperson, Mugwena Maluleke, says a new transitional framework and upgraded portal will improve transparency and alignment with the academic calendar, will ensure efficient payments and strengthen financial management to accommodation providers:
# The agricultural organisation TLU SA has welcomed the latest fuel price adjustments, saying it will offer relief to the agricultural community. At midnight, the price of 93 octane petrol will decrease by 62-cents per litre, while the cost of 95-octane will fall by 66-cents per litre. The price of diesel will decrease by one-rand-37-cents and one-rand-50-cents, depending on sulphur content. TLU SA’s Bennie van Zyl says this is good news for farmers at the start of the year:
# Cricket: Defending SA20 champion MI Cape Town hopes to get back to winning ways in today’s home match against Joburg Super Kings. MI Cape Town is currently in sixth and last position on the log after losing four of its first five matches, while the other was rained out. JSK is in second place behind Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Proteas allrounder Corbin Bosch still believes his team can turn its fortunes around when the players find their best form with the bat and the ball.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-39-cents and the euro at 19-rand-19-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-16-cents and Bitcoin trades at 93-thousand-684-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-448-dollars-90-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 61-dollars-82-cents a barrel.
# And finally: The UK government implemented a nationwide ban on junk food advertising on television and online as part of efforts to tackle rising childhood obesity. Under the new rules, food and drinks classified as high in fat, salt and sugar cannot be advertised on TV before 9 pm local time, or promoted through paid online advertising at any time. The Department of Health says the regulations are expected to reduce the number of children living with obesity by 20-thousand, and deliver around 44-billion-rand in health benefits over time.
