BULLETIN 28 December 9 am
Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The ANC is gearing up for its 114 years celebrations
# The African Union rejects initiatives to recognise Somaliland as an independent state
# And, a motorist caught on camera in a littering incident comes forward to pay his dues
# The ANC says preparations are underway for its 114 years celebrations at the Moruleng Stadium, in North West on the tenth of January. On January 8th 1912, chiefs, representatives of people’s and church organisations, and other prominent individuals gathered in Bloemfontein and formed the liberation movement. The ANC then declared its aim to bring all Africans together as one people to defend their rights and freedoms. The ANC says president Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver the keynote address at the historic event.
# The South African Communist Party has condemned the military intervention by the US military in northern Nigeria. SACP spokesperson, Mbulelo Mandlana says this comes as no surprise given the recent series of public statements and rhetoric by the US government intimating their intentions to deploy troops in Nigeria was done under pretext of protecting Christians against ISIS affiliated groups. Mandlana called for immediate diplomatic action by the structures of the African Union:
# The ANC in the Greater Joburg region says it concerned by the claims made by ActionSA leader, Herman Mashaba who has accused the City of Johannesburg of negotiating with criminals and lacking a plan for reclaiming hijacked buildings. ANC spokesperson, Mantombi Nkosi says this claim is misleading and ignores his own record during his tenure as executive mayor. She says Mashaba did not reclaim the inner city, and accused him of abdicating his responsibilities:
# The African Union says it firmly rejects any initiative or action aimed at recognizing Somaliland as an independent state. This comes as Israel became the first country to recognise it as an independent state. African Union chairperson, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf says Somaliland remains an integral part of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Youssouf says any attempt to undermine the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia runs counter to the fundamental principles of the African Union. He added that it sets a dangerous precedent with far-reaching implications for peace and stability across the continent.
# Cricket: England’s two-day win in their Boxing Day Ashes Test is set to deliver a huge financial hit to Australian cricket that could reach a reported 100-million-rand. This is the expected revenue loss after the match on an excessively bowler-friendly surface at a packed MCG finished with three full days to spare. A sell-out crowd of over 90-thousand was due for day three, including a travelling English contingent of up to 20-thousand, and the lack of play on Sunday will lead to an avalanche of refunds as well as lost sales in merchandise, food and drinks.
# And finally, the City of Cape Town has confirmed that a motorist caught on camera in a littering incident that has gone viral on social media has come forward and paid his dues. The city’s law enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason says earlier this week, the metro became aware of the video showing a motorist littering while stationary at an intersection, and a person in another vehicle approaching him, picking up the litter and tossing it back into his vehicle:
