Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The MK Party says the Day of Goodwill remains a hollow symbol
# Eskom says it continues to meet the electricity demand
# And soccer: Bafana suffers defeat against Egypt at AFCON
# The MK Party says the Day of Goodwill remains a hollow symbol in a society marked by extreme inequality. Spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela says the reality is that the day remains deeply rooted in the legacy of British colonialism, an ideological foundation fundamentally opposed to the political posture and revolutionary objectives of the MK Party. He says the name change altered symbolism without dismantling the material conditions of poverty, dispossession, and exclusion:
# The Western Cape police have strongly condemned the violent attack that claimed the lives of three people and left another critically injured in Nyanga on Christmas evening. Two unknown suspects allegedly entered a single-room structure in Mplangeni Street, Ofcon Hostel, and opened fire on the occupants. Police spokesperson Andrè Traut says preliminary investigations suggest that the attack is possibly linked to revenge or an attempt to eliminate a witness:
# Eskom says South Africa’s national power system remains stable and continues to meet electricity demand, underpinned by sustained and measurable improvements in its generation performance. Power utility spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena, says the generation recovery plan is delivering results. She says combined with intensive planned maintenance undertaken over the past year, it has strengthened the generation fleet, improved reliability, and enhanced Eskom’s operational resilience:
# The EFF has condemned the United States of America’s airstrikes carried out on Nigerian soil on Christmas Day. The US launched airstrikes in the northwest of Nigeria, particularly in Sokoto State, claiming to target militants linked to the Islamic State. The party says president Donald Trump alleged that Christians were being viciously killed and positioned the United States as a self-appointed saviour. The EFF says these airstrikes, conducted under the guise of counter-terrorism, represent a dangerous escalation of American military imperialism on the African continent.
# Soccer: Egypt narrowly defeated South Africa 1–0 in Agadir in their Group B AFCON clash last night. A first-half penalty from Mohamed Salah proved decisive for the Egyptians, even as they held on with ten men following Mohamed Hany’s red card. Despite Bafana Bafana’s late dominance, they couldn’t equalise, leaving their knockout hopes hanging in the balance for the upcoming Zimbabwe derby. Egypt has officially secured the top spot in Group B and progressed to the Round of 16. Bafana Bafana remains in second place and needs a result in their final match against Zimbabwe to guarantee progression.
# And finally: The Health Department says a total of one-thousand-668 babies were safely delivered on Christmas Day this year across the country`s public health facilities. The number is 308 more compared to one-thousand-360 babies delivered this time in 2024. The department’s spokesperson, Foster Mohale, says Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital is amongst the health facilities that recorded the most deliveries with 38 newborns in the country, followed by Tembisa Provincial Tertiary Hospital with 35 newborns:
