# President Cyril Ramaphosa will address a virtual extraordinary summit of Southern African Development Community heads of state and government today, in his capacity as interim chairperson. The summit is taking place under the theme, Advancing Industrialisation, Agricultural Transformation, and Energy Transition for a Resilient SADC. The Presidency says the meeting will consider the fact-finding mission report on the political situation in Madagascar and the interim incoming chairperson of Sadec.
# The EFF says reconciliation cannot be celebrated while apartheid-era injustice, land dispossession and economic exclusion persist. The Day of Reconciliation was marked yesterday. The EFF’s Nqobile Mhlongo says over three decades into democracy, the wounds of apartheid remain open because the crimes of apartheid were never decisively confronted. She says reconciliation without accountability is not unity, it is enforced amnesia:
# The Gauteng Education Department has received a total of five-thousand-199 appeals as part of the online admission process for Grades 1 and 8. Parents or guardians who receive a transfer placement offer at a school they did not apply to have seven days to either accept or decline the offer. Meanwhile, the department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, says the placement process remains active across all districts:

# US investigators have released a new enhanced video and picture of the suspect believed to be responsible for the Brown University shooting, which left two students dead. Nine others were wounded at the Ivy League institution in Rhode Island. A person of interest detained earlier has been cleared. Providence police chief Oscar Perez says the person in the video can be seen casing the area before the crime:
# Soccer: Paris St-Germain and France’s forward, Ousmane Dembele, was named best player at the Best FIFA Awards in Qatar. Dembele, who won the Ballon d’Or in September, played a starring role as PSG enjoyed a memorable season, including winning their 13th Ligue 1 title and a historic first Champions League title. Spain and Barcelona’s midfielder, Aitana Bonmatí, won the best women’s player award for a historic third straight year. PSG’s Luis Enrique and England’s Sarina Wiegman won the best men’s and women’s coach awards, respectively.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-78-cents and the euro at 19-rand-64-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-39-cents and Bitcoin trades at 86-thousand-775-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-326-dollars-17-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 59-dollars-60-cents a barrel.
