# We start with golf: South Africa’s Jayden Schaper made an eagle in a play-off to defeat compatriot and defending champion Shaun Norris and win the Alfred Dunhill Championship in Johannesburg. The pair were tied at 16 under par after the tournament was reduced to 54 holes, and it was Schaper who claimed a first DP World Tour victory at the first play-off hole. Spain’s Eugenio Chacarra finished third. Schaper described the victory as special:
# Cricket: India defeated South Africa by seven wickets in the third T20 in Dharamshala to take a 2-1 lead in their five-match series. Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav claim two wickets each as the Proteas were bowled out for 117 in their 20 overs. Captain Aiden Markram top-scored with 61 off 46 balls. Opener Abhishek Sharma then hit 35 off 18 balls as the hosts achieved the target with 25 balls to spare. The fourth T20 will be played in Lucknow on Wednesday.
More cricket news: Seamer Josh Tongue has been selected as Gus Atkinson’s replacement as the only change to England’s team for the must-win third Ashes Test against Australia, starting at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday. Brendon McCullum’s side are 2-0 down in the five-match series after slumping to eight-wicket defeats in Perth and Brisbane. All-rounder Will Jacks retains his place as the designated spinner, with still no place for Shoaib Bashir in the team. Tongue was England’s leading wicket-taker in the Test series against India in July and August.
# Rugby: English club Northampton Saints thrashed the Bulls 50-5 in the Champions Cup fixture at Franklin Gardens to secure maximum points from their opening two games. The hosts ran in eight tries with George Hendy scoring a hat-trick. The only try for the Bulls came from Stravino Jacobs. The Saints have moved to the top of the table on points difference from holders Bordeaux Bègles, with both sides on ten points. The Bulls are winless after two rounds, having also lost 46-33 at home to Bordeaux last weekend.
# And soccer: Manchester City defeated Crystal Palace 3-0 to go back to within two points of Premier League leaders Arsenal. Arsenal’s late win over Wolves on Saturday extended the gap to five points. Erling Haaland scored twice, and Phil Foden scored a sixth goal in five games, making it four straight Premier League victories for Pep Guardiola’s side. In other games, Aston Villa came from behind to beat West Ham 3-2, Newcastle United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Sunderland, while Nottingham Forest thrashed Tottenham Hotspur 3-0.
