# Acting deputy national police commissioner for Crime Detection, Hilda Senthumule, says the disbandment of the political killings Task Team did not follow proper procedures. She explained to the Madlanga Commission that 121 PKTT dockets were transferred to police headquarters but should remain under provincial control. Senthumule criticised suspended deputy national commissioner Shadrack Sibiya’s mishandling of the decision as he directed the immediate handover of the dockets:
# Action Society says South Africa’s basic policing has failed, with violent crime still very high. Between April and September, there were over eleven-thousand-500 murders and more than 19-thousand rapes reported. The organisation warns that awareness campaigns or disaster declarations won’t help unless police have working systems, trained officers, and functioning forensic services. Action Society’s Juanita du Preez calls for tighter monitoring of repeat offenders to protect women and children:
# AfriForum says provincial law enforcement is urgently needed after police released the 2025/26 crime statistics. The organisation argues that decentralisation would curb political interference exposed at the Madlanga commission of inquiry. AfriForum’s Jacques Broodryk welcomes acting police minister Firoz Cachalia’s stance against political abuse. He says devolved law enforcement will improve accountability, speed, local crime response, and cooperation with community safety groups:
# Rugby: SA Rugby’s president, Mark Alexander, says the organisation is thriving financially this year, despite unions rejecting a 1.2-billion-rand equity offer from Ackley Sports Group last year. Speaking in Johannesburg, he says commercial activity grew by 74-percent. Alexander believes historic incoming tours next year will boost revenue significantly. He says SA Rugby is financially stable until 2027 as it reviews the entire rugby structure:
# Rescue efforts have now been concluded at the Wang Fuk housing development in Hong Kong where at least 128 people were killed in Wednesday’s fire – the worst in the Chinese territory in nearly 80 years. Security Chief Chris Tang says around 200 people are still missing and at least 79, including 12 firefighters, injured. The estate that housed more than four-thousand-600 people had been wrapped in bamboo scaffolding and green mesh for renovation work. Three construction company officials were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter for using unsafe materials.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-11-cents and the euro at 19-rand-80-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-62-cents and Bitcoin trades at 91-thousand-639-dollars.
