Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The South African government condemns the military coup in Guinea-Bissau
# The EFF urges the other G20 members to reaffirm South Africa’s place
# And, consumers are urged to be careful today on Black Friday
# The Presidency says the South African government condemns the military coup in Guinea-Bissau, calling it a threat to democracy during a crucial electoral period. Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya urges peaceful dialogue and says South Africa will work with the African Union and Economic Community of West African States to restore stability in Guinea-Bissau:
# The EFF has criticised US president Donald Trump for threatening to exclude South Africa from next year’s G20 summit in Miami, Florida. They called Trump’s actions a tantrum over South Africa’s support for Palestine. The party says Trump’s claims of white genocide are false. The EFF’s Sinawo Thambo urged other G20 members to reaffirm South Africa’s rightful inclusion, calling Trump’s latest actions reckless.
# Six candidates are in the running to be South Africa’s next National Director of Public Prosecutions including the former head of the National Prosecuting Authority’s Investigating Directorate, advocate Hermione Cronje. The other candidates are the NPA Western Cape Director of Public Prosecutions advocate Nicolette Astraid Bell; NPA investigating director advocate Andrea Johnson; Global Coalition to Fight Financial Crime chairperson advocate Xolisile Jennifer Khanyile; NPA Western Cape Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions advocate Adrian Carl Mopp; and Johannesburg Society of Advocates’ advocate Menzi Simelane.
# The MK Party’s motion of no confidence in KwaZulu-Natal premier, Thamsanqa Ntuli, has been approved, and members of the legislature will vote on it on the 15th of December. The motion cites financial mismanagement and Ntuli’s failure to deliver on his promise of job opportunities. The MK Party’s Sibonelo Nomvalo says the motion is to save the people of the province from the government of provincial unity:
# Rugby: South Africa and Wales will have an unknown factor in the middle when they square off in Cardiff tomorrow. Little-known French referee Luc Ramos will officiate his first Springbok Test. He will be assisted by compatriot Pierre Brousset and Englishman Matthew Carley, who handed Ireland five cards in last week’s loss to South Africa. Victory will hand the Boks an undefeated tour after also beating Japan, France and Italy this month. Kick-off at the Principality Stadium is ten past five in the afternoon.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-13-cents and the euro at 19-rand-88-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-68-cents and Bitcoin trades at 91-thousand-392-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-162-dollars-29-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 62-dollars-86-cents a barrel.
# And finally: With today being Black Friday, consumers have been urged to make good money choices and avoid being scammed. Consumers in South Africa spent over 30-billion-rand during Black Friday in 2024 through just three major banks. Online shopping saw a significant boost, with a 14-percent increase in the number of customers transacting online. JustMoney says consumers can avoid being scammed by using a credit card rather than a debit card, watching out for fake online stores, and not clicking on SMS or WhatsApp discount links.
