# The Hawks are celebrating its members at its seventh annual national prestige awards at the Batter Boys Hotel in Montana, Pretoria today. The awards aim to celebrate and honour both operational and administrative members, who have gone beyond the call of duty to serve and protect the people of South Africa. The Hawks say top management acknowledges the outstanding contribution and the sacrifice the members make in their quest to ensure a safe and secure South Africa.
# Airlink has announced it will resume its Durban to Bloemfontein flights on the 26th of next month, introducing morning and late afternoon services. CEO and managing director Roger Foster says this move is pivotal in establishing Durban as the airline’s third hub airport. He highlights the response to rising demands for seamless connections, emphasising enhanced productivity for travellers on this route.
# Non-profit organisation Kids-Can is gearing up for an extraordinary journey that will make a life-changing impact. Founder and cancer survivor Kaashief Lakay will embark on a momentous cycle from Cape Town to Botswana in September. The mission is to raise one-million-rand to support children battling cancer in impoverished communities. Lakay emphasised that this endeavour aims to not only increase awareness about childhood cancer, but also provide essential resources to families in need, such as food, beds, and transportation.
# The inaugural Mazaalai International Snow and Ice Festival in Mongolia has set a new Guinness World Record, for the largest number of people sliding down an ice slide simultaneously. A total of 408 attendees helped secure the record by going down the festival’s 16.4-meter-long ice slide, one after the other for an hour. The main attraction of the festival, which ends on the 28th of this month, is a large ice sculpture depicting the country’s protected Gobi bear, Mazaalai, and her cubs, aimed at raising awareness of the critically endangered animal.
# And finally: The South African Post Office commemorates the 2023 Springbok world champions with a special set of international and standard rate stamps. The standard postage stamp depicts a rugby field scene with a golden rugby ball poised for a penalty kick. The international postage stamp features a golden rugby ball surrounded by a typographic design showcasing the words World Champions 2023 and the previous three years of Springbok victories. The Post Offices emphasizes the value of these stamps for collectors and users alike.
