# Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla’s trial will begin today
# And rugby: Argentina secure a record win against Wales
# Unite for Change, a coalition comprising RISE Mzansi, the Good Party, and Build One South Africa, has officially opened candidate applications for the 2026 local government elections. The key components of the candidate selection process will be local endorsement, merit-based selection, skills-focused criteria, and public transparency. RISE Mzansi leader and Unite for Change co-leader, Songezo Zibi, says they uphold the mantra that politics is too important to be left to politicians, and they are offering fresh faces and new talent a pathway to public service:
# The trial of Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, daughter of former president Jacob Zuma, is expected to begin at the Durban High Court today. She faces charges including incitement to commit terrorism and incitement to commit public violence. These charges stem from her alleged role in instigating violence during the unrest that swept across parts of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal in July 2021. The violence left over 350 people dead. Zuma-Sambudla has consistently maintained her innocence. The State is expected to call more than 60 witnesses over the next two weeks.
# The DA says it has written to all parties in Parliament to back the Economic Inclusion for All Bill, to end an empowerment model that has served only a connected elite and graduate towards a system of genuine empowerment. The party says for nearly three decades, Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment has failed to deliver for the vast majority. The DA’s Mat Cuthbert says an estimated 100 individuals continue to benefit from a system:
# City Power says it is intensifying its efforts to recover more than ten-billion-rand owed to the utility, with 1.6-billion-rand of that debt owed by customers within the Hursthill Service Delivery Centre supply area. It says two business parks in Croesus owing City Power 17-million-rand and 5.3-million-rand respectively, along with a business property in Melville in arrears of 3.1-million-rand, are among the latest high-value defaulters whose electricity supply was disconnected. City Power says all three commercial customers had previously been disconnected and were found to have reconnected illegally.
# The US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has warned that things are only going to get worse as flight cancellations and delays are set to increase. Nearly three-thousand flights to, from, or within the US were cancelled over the weekend as the Federal Aviation Administration has reduced air travel capacity at 40 of the country’s busiest airports. Duffy told CNN that the percentage in the reduction of flight capacity could rise to 20-percent if the government shutdown doesn’t end soon:
# Rugby: Argentina claimed a record 52-28 victory against Wales in Cardiff. The Pumas scored seven tries with Geronimo Prisciantelli bagging a brace, while Santi Carreras added 17 points with the boot. This is the most points Argentina have scored against Wales and a record margin of victory. Meanwhile, this is the tenth successive home defeat for Wales, and it was Steve Tandy’s first game in charge. Wales next host Japan on Saturday, while Argentina face Scotland at Murrayfield on Sunday.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-27-cents and the euro at 19-rand-97-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-71-cents and Bitcoin trades at 105-thousand-804-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-50-dollars-69-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 63-dollars-84-cents a barrel.
