Gauteng Health Department steps up STI prevention initiatives

# The Gauteng Health Department is intensifying efforts to curb sexually transmitted infections through screenings at men’s clinics, workplaces, campuses, and male circumcision sites. MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko highlighted rising Male Urethritis Syndrome cases from 55-thousand-783 in 2020 to over 80-thousand in 2024. Expanded community outreach, condom distribution, and the 1.1-million antiretroviral therapy campaign aim to reduce HIV and STI transmission. Residents are urged to undergo regular STI screenings and adopt safe sexual practices.
