# Former president Thabo Mbeki has warned that there are anti-revolutionary forces within the ANC, and that factionalism and careerism among members are the biggest threat to the party’s survival. He was speaking at the ANC Veterans League’s Political School in Gqeberha, where declining electoral support, internal factionalism, and the quality of leadership within the party were discussed. Mbeki stated that the party cannot solve South Africa’s challenges unless it renews itself and restores ethical leadership. He adds that change must begin at the branch level.
# The Activists and Citizens Forum says the country has never experienced the level of corruption and unemployment it is seeing now under president Cyril Ramaphosa’s administration. In its final report, the National Anti-Corruption Advisory Council stated that institutional reform is needed to address the shortcomings in practices and systems that have enabled corruption to flourish. The forum’s Dennis Bloem says even during the state capture period under former president Jacob Zuma, the levels of corruption were not at this crisis level:
# The DA in Ekurhuleni has strongly condemned the drive-by shooting in Reiger Park, which claimed the lives of six people. Three other people were injured in the shooting on Saturday evening. The DA’s Izelle Senol says this senseless act of violence has left the community devastated and traumatised. She adds that law enforcement authorities must act swiftly to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice:
# Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs ministry says it would welcome assistance from the US in fighting Islamist militant groups, as long as its territorial integrity is respected. US president Donald Trump has ordered the Defence Department to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria. He has accused the Nigerian government of failing to stop what he called the mass slaughter of Christians in the country. The ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, has denied Trump’s claims of mass killings of Christians:
# Tennis: Italian Jannik Sinner won his first Paris Masters title and reclaimed the world number one ranking from rival Carlos Alcaraz. The 24-year-old defeated Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, 6-4, 7-6, extending his winning streak on indoor hard courts to 26 matches. Sinner, who has also tightened the race for the year-end world number one ranking, which will be decided at the ATP Finals in Turin, says it’s been an amazing year, no matter what comes in Turin:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-30-cents and the euro at 19-rand-96-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-74-cents and Bitcoin trades at 107-thousand-897-dollars.
