# Table Mountain and its famous cableway have been nominated for two global titles at the 2025 World Travel Awards. Table Mountain is up for the world’s leading tourist attraction, and the cableway for the world’s leading cable car ride. They are the only South African nominees this year. Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company, managing director, Wahida Parker, urges South Africans to vote before 26 October as the cableway celebrates 96 years and over 32-million visitors.
# The 2025 Sauvignon Blanc SA Top 10 winners have been revealed, picked from 167 wines entered by 98 producers. The winners include Ataraxia Sauvignon Blanc 2025 from the Hermanus region, Robertson’s Rietvallei John B Sauvignon Blanc 2025, and Merwida Sauvignon Blanc 2025 from Breedekloof. Sauvignon Blanc SA chairperson, Elunda Basson, says the winning wines reflect South Africa’s winemakers’ craftsmanship in shaping texture, layers and ageing potential from this noble grape.
# North-West University’s second-year BSc Animal Sciences student, Lesego Molema, has been nominated for the South African Agricultural Awards. He is the first student from the university to be recognised at these national awards, which celebrate excellence, innovation and leadership in farming, agri-business and culinary arts. Molema sees his nomination as a platform to expand his advocacy for youth involvement in agriculture and to inspire other students to pursue leadership and innovation within the field. The awards will be held in Durban on November 7.
# The Durban University of Technology Innobiz DUT Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation formed part of a strong South African delegation which participated in the Agro Inter Schools competition in Russia. The global event brought together students from the host nation and partner countries, including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, China, and India. Ntwenhle Malinga, Kusas’elihle Ndawonde and Anitha Chiya, who represented Team South Africa, delivered a presentation about the country’s rich agricultural landscape.
# And finally, with year-end exams around the corner, and the class of 2025 facing their final test, City of Cape Town libraries will once again be offering learners a supportive study environment. Various libraries will assist learners by creating dedicated spaces to study. Mayoral committee member for Community Services and Health, Francine Higham, says the matric support programme offers space and access to resources, including study guides, and the online SmartCape service, where they can access past exam question papers:
