Tourism Committee highlights infrastructure gaps in townships and rural areas

# The Portfolio Committee on Tourism says the week-long oversight in Gauteng focusing on infrastructure development in townships and rural areas found various memorial sites poorly maintained. This includes Evaton, Sharpeville, and Boipatong, as the committee is calling for government and community intervention. The committee praised well-managed sites such as the Cradle of Humankind and Cullinan Diamond Lodge, while urging improved marketing and local pricing. The committee highlighted progress in projects like Vredefort Dome and People’s Park, however, emphasised the need for basic municipal services.
