# Cosatu has welcomed the government’s intervention in resolving the stipend payments for education assistants under the Basic Education Employment Initiative. The delay in payments was caused by administrative challenges related to the uploading and verification of attendance registers. This is a mandatory process designed to ensure accountability and prevent payments to ghost employees. Cosatu’s spokesperson, Matthew Parks, says the Departments of Employment and Labour and Basic Education must ensure that this never happens again:
