# Malema warns Parliament’s ad hoc committee should not become a subcommittee of the Madlanga commission
# And cricket: Mitchell Starc is one of four inclusions in Australia’s ODI squad for a series against India
# Deputy Transport minister Mkhuleko Hlengwa has highlighted severe corruption and mismanagement at the Road Accident Fund. Addressing Parliament’s standing committee on Public Accounts, he reported a significant backlog of unpaid claims, critical vacancies, and procurement irregularities. Hlengwa also raised concerns about whistleblower reports implicating law firms and members of the judiciary in corrupt dealings. He emphasized the need for public education on claims processes:
# EFF leader Julius Malema says Parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating allegations by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi must not act as a subcommittee of the Madlanga commission. Mkhwanazi is the first witness in Parliament on alleged political interference in the justice system. Malema insists the committee is an independent structure of Parliament and Mkhwanazi’s statement must be an original submission to the committee, not a copy of his earlier testimony at the commission:
# National police commissioner, Fannie Masemola is warning unruly community members, especially those who disregard the blue uniform, that the police will not tolerate attacks on its members. Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says this follows a video circulating on social media of a female police member who was assaulted while performing her lawful duties in Kimberley in the Northern Cape. She says anyone who tries to stop police in carrying out their mandate in preventing and combating crime, will be met with the full might of the law.
# President Cyril Ramaphosa will embark on working visits to Ireland and Belgium this week to strengthen trade and diplomatic ties. The presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says Ramaphosa meets Irish president Michael Higgins and prime minister Micheál Martin tomorrow to deepen cooperation in education, science, and investment. He also confirmed that Ramaphosa will join the Global Gateway Forum in Brussels, led by European Union president Ursula von der Leyen, on Thursday:
# Cricket: Experienced fast bowler Mitchell Starc has been included in Australia’s one-day squad for the home series against India later this month. His return is one of four changes to the side that lost the ODI series against South Africa 2-1 last month, with Matt Short, Matt Renshaw and Mitchel Owen also earning recalls. Marnus Labuschagne, Aaron Hardie and Matthew Kuhnemann have been dropped from the squad. Mitch Marsh will continue to lead the side in the place of regular captain Pat Cummins, who is injured.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-20-cents and the euro at 20-rand-1-cent. One British pound costs 23-rand-1-cent and Bitcoin trades at 124-thousand-541-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-966-dollars-20-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 65-dollars-24-cents a barrel.
