# The Health minister is shocked by the two-billion-rand Tembisa Hospital looting
# And rugby: Wallaby lock Will Skelton is back to face the All Blacks in a must-win Test
# Crime Intelligence head, Dumisani Khumalo, disputes claims that the political killings task team was created as a result of the Moerane commission’s recommendations. Speaking at the Madlanga commission in Pretoria, Khumalo said the task team was established administratively by then national police commissioner, Khehla Sitole, in advance of the commission’s investigations. He added that the inter-ministerial committee only oversaw funding, while the national commissioner controlled operations and resources:
# Health minister Aaron Motsoaledi has expressed shock after the Special Investigating Unit uncovered two-billion-rand in healthcare looting at Tembisa Hospital in Gauteng. The probe was launched in 2021 after whistleblower Babita Deokaran’s assassination and has revealed at least three coordinated syndicates behind the corruption. Receiving the interim report, Motsoaledi questioned why the hospital was targeted and called for investigations into officials aiding the networks. He condemned the theft as a betrayal of healthcare:
# The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union has welcomed the outcome of its engagements with the police on the unfair removal of trainees from the Bhisho Training College in the Eastern Cape. POPCRU’s spokesperson, Richard Mamabolo, says 15 members had been excluded on the basis of having visible tattoos and other human resource-related matters. He says the affected members have been reinstated and recalled to the Introductory Police Development Learning Programme running from today until December:
Moving abroad:
# Jaguar Land Rover says it will partially restart manufacturing of its vehicles in the coming days after a cyberattack halted operations at its United Kingdom factories. The company owned by India’s Tata Motors earlier announced that it had been targeted by hackers, severely disrupting sales and production and forcing the company to seek emergency funding. The UK government announced that a government credit agency will provide the guarantee for a loan from a commercial bank, to be repaid over five years.
# Rugby: Giant lock Will Skelton says he intends to use his physicality to rattle the All Blacks in Australia’s must-win Rugby Championship Test in Perth after missing their agonising defeat in Auckland. He also missed their home double-header against Argentina because of club commitments with La Rochelle in France, and the loss at Eden Park on Saturday which saw the Bledisloe Cup remain in New Zealand hands. But Skelton is back for Saturday’s sold-out match at Perth Stadium, along with fellow power forward Rob Valetini.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-28-cents and the euro at 20-rand-29-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-23-cents and Bitcoin trades at 112-thousand-201-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-821-dollars-66-cent a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 67-dollars-52-cents a barrel.
