# The Southern Africa Network for Immigrants and Refugees says it is concerned that the Immigration Amendment Bill will strengthen enforcement and deportation mechanisms against migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. The bill, which was passed in Parliament last week, sets clear rules for detention and deportation, with magistrates overseeing decisions. The organisation’s Claude Kayitare says the focus on swifter deportation risks undermining due process, particularly where migrants face barriers to accessing legal assistance:
