# ACWA Power has appointed Stellenbosch University’s Craig McGregor as the first chairperson in Concentrating Solar Power. The appointment seeks to boost South Africa’s solar thermal research and postgraduate training. The Chair will focus on concentrated solar power plant optimisation, thermal storage, dry-air cooling, and industrial applications. McGregor, who is the leader of the Solar Thermal Energy Research Group, aims to advance reliable 24/7 renewable solar power while supporting regional skills development and economic growth.
