# Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has announced the development of 237 new social housing units in the inner city, following Council’s approval to release the Fruit and Veg site near District Six. The three-thousand-300-square-metre property will host 375 residential units overall, including retail space. Hill-Lewis says the project forms part of the City’s affordable housing drive, aimed at breaking apartheid spatial legacies. The City says it has now released more land for housing this term than in the past decade.
