# COPE Gauteng has condemned taxi violence at Maponya Mall, Soweto, where a car was set alight, endangering public safety. Provincial Chairperson Tom Mofokeng says the incident exposes government’s failure to regulate the taxi industry, worsened by tensions with e-hailing services. COPE is calling for a multi-disciplinary task force to enforce regulations, integrate Uber and Bolt into a safe system, and fast-track the National Land Transport Transition Act to restore order and protect commuters’ constitutional right to freedom of movement.
