# President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa should be recognised as a true champion of human rights. This is after South Africa presented its case against Israel at the International Court of Justice in The Hague in the Netherlands yesterday, accusing Israel of committing genocide against the Palestinians living in Gaza. Ramaphosa says the country’s legal team led by Justice minister Ronald Lamola presented sound arguments and he is so proud:
Meanwhile the African Transformation Movement says South Africa’s case against Israel serves as a beacon of hope for justice. The hearing in The Hague will resume today to hear Israel’s oral arguments. ATM’s spokesperson, Zama Ntshona, says South Africa meticulously outlined the grave situation in Gaza, detailing mass killings, destruction, and severe restrictions on essential resources:
# Seven Nigerian suspects have been arrested for kidnapping a Nigerian businessman operating in Fordsburg, Johannesburg. The 48-year-old was kidnapped on Wednesday evening. Police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, says they managed to track and rescue the businessman less than 24 hours after his kidnapping. She says he was found in Ferndale, Randburg, yesterday evening:
# Rugby: British and Irish Lions chief executive Ben Calveley says they don’t have a policy that closes off anyone from being selected. This has opened the door for the likes of Henry Arundell, Joe Marchant, and Owen Farrell. England and Ireland’s current selection policies mean only players who play their club rugby within the country can play for the Test side. Farrell has been linked with a transfer to Racing 92 in France, which will make him ineligible for England. Calveley says form will remain the sole barometer for selection.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-59-cents and the euro at 20-rand-43-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-77-cents and Bitcoin trades at 46-thousand-26-dollars-69-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-34-dollars-43-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 78-dollars-91-cents a barrel.
# And finally, auction house Sotheby’s and the Council of Fashion Designers of America have partnered on an exclusive auction, to offer looks featuring iconic designs and rare pieces donated by CFDA members and collectors of American fashion. The Defining American Style auction includes work by 37 brands and CFDA members, which have been donated by the designers themselves. Outfits worn by the likes of Anna Wintour, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez will be up for auction later this month. All proceeds of the sale will go to the CFDA Foundation.
