Gauteng Community Safety committee welcomes arrests in firearms trafficking syndicate

# The Gauteng portfolio committee on Community Safety has welcomed the arrest of two suspects, who are believed to be part of a sophisticated firearms trafficking syndicate. The suspects were arrested in Meyersdal, Johannesburg, on Monday with 30 unlicensed firearms reportedly destined for the Western Cape. They face multiple charges, including the illegal possession and trafficking of unlicensed firearms. The committee says unlicensed and illegal firearms are not merely tools of violence; they are enablers of organised crime, murder, armed robbery, gender-based violence, and gang-related activities.
