# The Public Servants Association says it will observe International Nelson Mandela Day on Friday through a community service activity. The association will be at the Mahikeng Provincial Hospital in North West, where activities will include a community clean-up campaign. PSA says beyond the physical clean-up, their presence at the hospital aims to show solidarity with healthcare workers and the patients they serve. It adds this reflects the spirit of Ubuntu.
More news regarding Nelson Mandela Day: KwaZulu-Natal Human Settlements MEC, Siboniso Duma, will join the crew constructing homes for flood victims in Illovo on Friday. He will hand over a house to a family who were impacted by the floods in February, where they lost their matriarch, Zondeni Gcabashe. Duma’s spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya, says all families affected by floods deserve to have homes:
# Four staff members of the Tshwane University of Technology’s faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment have been selected to participate in the prestigious Erasmus+ Staff Exchange Programme in Turkey. This international exchange is designed to strengthen academic partnerships, encourage innovation in teaching and research and promote cultural exchange. TUT says the selection of the four highlights the institution’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and global collaboration.
# The City of Cape Town says Opera In Your Neighbourhood takes the experience of opera out of the traditional theatre space, and makes it available to audiences right where they are. The metro’s Community, Arts and Culture Development Department, along with the Cape Town Opera Chorus, performed four concerts in the past two months. Mayoral committee member for Community Services and Health, Francine Higham, says residents in places like Gugulethu and Woodstock experienced the art and beauty of opera:
And staying in Cape Town, the metro says the Day of a Thousand Opportunities is one of several initiatives overseen by CapeBPO to bolster the regional industry. Scores of young Capetonians turned out at Athlone Stadium for the event where job-seekers were introduced to the call centre industry. Mayoral committee member for Economic Growth, James Vos, says the Mother City has become a premium global choice for many of the world’s biggest business process outsourcing companies:
