# Cricket: Australia bowls the Windies out for just 27 to win the Test series 3-0
# And Cape Town is named the best city in the world for the seventh time
# The Health Professions Council of South Africa says it remains resolute in its mandate to detect and act against illegal practices in the healthcare sector. Five bogus practitioners were arrested between April and June this year. The latest is the arrest of a Congolese national, Basa Bafumba-Nkoy, who was caught practising without being registered at a family practice in Yeoville, Johannesburg. The council says registered practitioners must respect their legal and ethical responsibility, and ensure only qualified and registered professionals work at their practices.
# Mpumalanga Education MEC Cathy Dlamini has been axed following a provincial executive reshuffle amid corruption allegations. The EFF opened a corruption case against her, alleging she solicited 600-thousand-rand in bribes from service providers for tenders in school nutrition and building maintenance. Dlamini denies the claims, saying they stem from resisting state capture attempts by an opposition leader. Lindi Masina has been appointed as the new Education MEC. She was a speaker of the Mpumalanga legislature and a former mayor of the Govan Mbeki Municipality.
# UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Ed Miliband, says the Met Office’s latest report is a stark warning on the urgency of tackling climate change. The report confirms the UK’s climate is notably different from previous decades, with extreme heat and rainfall becoming the norm due to human-caused global warming. The report also indicates that UK sea levels are rising faster than the global average. Addressing Parliament, Miliband emphasised the government’s commitment to tackling climate change:
# Cricket: Australia completed a 3-0 whitewash in the Test series against the Windies when they humiliated the hosts in the final match in Kingston, Jamaika. The Windies were bowled out for the second lowest total of 27 – just one run more than New Zealand’s record in 1955. Mitchell Starc was the main destroyer, taking five wickets within his first 15 deliveries, which is a world record for the quickest five-wicket haul. He ended with six for nine, and Australia won the match by 176 runs.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-80-cents and the euro at 20-rand-79-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-93-cents and Bitcoin trades at 116-thousand-928-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-363-dollars-1-cent a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 68-dollars-72-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Cape Town has once again been recognised as the Best City in the World by readers of the Telegraph in its 2025 Telegraph Travel Awards. With participation from over 20-thousand UK travellers, this latest accolade marks the seventh time Cape Town has earned the prestigious title. Mayoral committee member for Economic Growth, James Vos, says the Mother City has been praised for offering a blend of spectacular landscapes and dynamic city life that few other destinations can match:
