# The Public Servants Association is calling for immediate, decisive actions to eliminate ghost workers from the country’s public service. The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa’s payroll audit revealed nearly three-thousand ghost workers. The Gauteng Department of Health recently froze the salaries of over 200 unverified employees. PSA’s spokesperson, Claude Naiker, says if only one-percent of the public-service workforce of 1.3-million employees is compromised by ghost workers, the state could be losing over 3.9-billion-rand annually:
