# The Department of Water and Sanitation has begun public consultations on proposed raw water use charges for the 2026/27 financial year. According to the department, the process aims to ensure that users, including agriculture, industry, mines, and households, pay for water resource management, infrastructure, and research. Charges cover abstraction, discharge, and non-consumptive use. The revised pricing strategy promotes sustainability and equity, applying user pays and polluter pays principles. Final tariff decisions will follow stakeholder input and be submitted to minister Pemmy Majodina for approval.
