# The City of Cape Town says over the past few months, the tourism sector has experienced remarkable growth, making it a hub for business revenue and creating diverse job opportunities. In the 2022/2023 season, aviation brought in 24-billion-rand and ten-thousand- 600-plus jobs into the Cape. Cruise travel welcomed almost 190-thousand passengers and crew between October 2022 and May last year. Mayoral committee member for Economic Growth, James Vos, says they are committed to creating a tourism-related job in every household in Cape Town:
# The City of Cape Town says with the schools reopening next week, many residents and visitors are making the most of the good weather before children have to hit the books. This past weekend, the Identikidz project aimed at promoting child safety, tagged more than 18-thousand-500 children. Mayoral committee member for Community Services and Health, Patricia van der Ross says the project, aimed at creating a safer beach environment, provides registered children with a waterproof wristband containing a unique number:
# KwaZulu-Natal’s commercial property market is rebounding after facing a challenging period with a decline of over 20-percent in 2022. FNB notes the growth is emerging from a low base. The bank’s commercial Property Finance expert, Malusi Mthuli, stresses the clear and firmly entrenched upward trend in the market:
# Western Thailand conservationists are celebrating the success of their tiger conservation efforts. Authorities report the sighting of a mother tiger and her two cubs in the Salak Phra Wildlife Sanctuary, marking over a decade of meticulous monitoring. Conservation Programme Manager at the Thai chapter of Panthera, Rattapan Pattanarangsan, says Thailand is now in the position to breed tigers in the country. He says the country’s commitment to conservation is yielding results, with a notable rise in the tiger population over the past 12 years.
# And finally: Nkateko Emily Mabasa has defied the odds and becoming an inspiration to many in Alexandra township in Gauteng. The 33-year-old, who has Cerebral Palsy, managed to get a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design. She also founded the Phoenix Alexandra, an organisation that provides a range of activities for children and young adults. The activities include dancing, singing, acting, spelling bees, reading, poetry, and chess clubs. Mabasa says despite the challenges she has faced being disabled, she wants to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
