Limpopo tightens vetting of initiation schools to prevent deaths [SOUND]

# Limpopo’s Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Department has introduced a strict vetting process for traditional surgeons and operators ahead of the 2025 initiation season. Limpopo Cogta MEC, Basikopo Makamu, says 529 applications were approved, while 40 were rejected. Makamu says the process includes criminal background checks and aims for zero deaths. He urged parents to disclose medical conditions early, with home screening as the first vital step in prevention:
