Minister Simelane urges swift housing for Khayelitsha fire victims

# Human Settlements minister Thembi Simelane is urging swift housing support for families in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, left homeless after a fire destroyed over 50 structures during a cold front over the weekend. Her spokesperson, Tsekiso Machike, says the affected households may receive building materials under the department’s emergency housing interventions. Similar aid is expected for 57 families affected by a separate fire at Kennedy Road informal settlement in Ethekwini, Gauteng. Minister Simelane has renewed calls for the safe use of heating and cooking appliances.
