# The ANC says it is in the interest of justice to ensure that all perpetrators who misled the Truth And Reconciliation Commission or failed to obtain amnesty are brought to book and face the consequences of their heinous crimes against humanity. This follows the announcement that the Cradock Four Inquest will be re-opened. The party is equally pleased with the progress registered on other TRC cases under investigation or before the courts. The ANC’s Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri says the progress made in these cases is undoubtedly unprecedented.
# The South African Communist Party general secretary, Solly Mapaila says the party won’t allow the abuse of the name uMkhonto weSiswe by former president Jacob Zuma and former uMkhonto weSiswe members. Mapaila addressed alliance members at the 29th commemoration of the death of SACP chairperson, Joe Slovo at the Avalon Cemetery in Soweto. He says the SACP has reaffirmed its recognition of the MK Liberation War Veterans as the only legitimate association and voice of bona fide former MK commanders and rank-and-file members:
# Activists and Citizens Forum says the appointment of retired deputy chief justice Dikgang Moseneke as Ad-Hoc Justice to the International Court of Justice deserves congratulations. The forum says, South Africa can be proud to have a person of the caliber of Moseneke who can at any time represent the country with the highest integrity and dignity. Activists and Citizens Forum spokesperson, Dennis Bloem, says this appointment brings back sad memories of how Moseneke was overlooked by former president Jacob Zuma, not to be appointed as Chief Justice of the country:
# Cricket: Rain put an early finish to Sri Lanka’s opening one-day match against Zimbabwe in Colombo, with Zimbabwe struggling on 12 for two after four overs when the downpour hit. Sri Lanka finished on 273 for 9 after Charith Asalanka’s third ODI century in a knock that included nine boundaries. The teams will play two more one-day matches on Monday and Thursday followed by three T20 games, all in Colombo.
# And, finally, Soccer: Tributes have been pouring in from all over the world, after the death of Brazil’s four-time World Cup-winning football legend Mario Zagallo, at age 92. Zagallo, who played alongside Pele in Brazil’s 1958 and 1962 World Cup-winning teams and later won the trophy as a coach, died Friday of multiple organ failure, after being treated for a series of health problems in recent months. AFP reports president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva led the tributes as Brazil mourned, lauding Zagallo as one of the greatest football players and coaches of all time.
