# The DA says the South African Police Service must be transparent about the real conviction rate for illegal firearm cases, not from the point of prosecution, but from the point of arrest. The party’s Ian Cameron says only five-percent of Cape Town gun arrests lead to convictions and not the 80-to-90-percent SAPS claims. He says SAPS is deliberately not comparing the number of convictions to the number of arrests, because the cases show that they are dropping the ball:
