# The family of 35-year-old Vyaksha Sookdew has welcomed the 23-year prison sentence handed to her former boyfriend, Sugendren Rodney Naicker, in the Durban High Court last week. Naicker pleaded guilty to killing Sookdew with a hammer during an argument in December 2023. Her decomposed body was found wrapped in plastic bags on Christmas Day. The court heard that Naicker acted after discovering voodoo dolls in her bedroom. The family says the sentencing brings some relief and hopes it offers closure.
