Saftu demands immediate reversal of decision to drop B-BBEE requirement to facilitate Starlink

# Saftu is demanding the immediate reversal of the decision to drop the 30-percent broad-based black economic empowerment requirement for Elon Musk’s Starlink or any other corporation. This comes as minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, released a proposed policy direction to the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa last Friday, seeking to amend licensing rules under the Electronic Communications Act. Saftu says this could potentially undermine the country’s established regulatory frameworks, including laws governing spectrum licensing.
