# The City of Cape Town has welcomed the life sentences handed down by the Western Cape High Court to the four people, who were convicted of the murders of Law Enforcement officers, Simtembile Nyangiwe and Jan Nieuwenhuys. The officers were shot dead in September 2019 while escorting officials who were upgrading an informal settlement in Samora Machel. Mayoral committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says the judge emphasised that the accused had shown no remorse for their actions:
