# The Gauteng provincial committees for Community Safety and Transport are calling on the provincial government to urgently implement the recommendations of the Shongwe Commission of Inquiry. The inquiry was established to investigate the root causes and contributing factors behind the violence and instability in the taxi industry. A total of 59 taxi violence-related deaths have been reported in Gauteng this year. Community Safety committee chairperson, Bandile Masuku, says it is imperative that commuters are protected:
