Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The EFF is not fazed by Elon Musk’s call against Julius Malema
# The MK Party is set to open a case of treason against AfriForum
# And tennis: Carlos Alcaraz wins the Rotterdam Open
# The EFF has hit back at South African-born tech billionaire, Elon Musk, who has called for party leader Julius Malema to be sanctioned and declared an international criminal. This comes after Musk retweeted old clips of Malema making comments about cutting the throat of whiteness. The EFF’s spokesperson, Sinawo Thambo, says the offence that Musk has made against Malema constitutes meddling in the country’s domestic affairs, adding that it declares the tech billionaire as an enemy of South Africa:
# The MK Party says it will be opening a case of treason against AfriForum at the Cape Town Central Police Station today. The organisation has said it will write to the US government to urge sanctions against ANC leaders it claims are pushing policies that could harm South Africa. AfriForum described the Land Expropriation Act as an evil and disruptive policy, particularly criticising the provision allowing land expropriation without compensation. MK Party deputy president John Hlophe will lead a march to the police station.
# The GOOD Party says Cape Town mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis, claiming he received evidence from the police after they raided former mayco member Malusi Booi’s office, but no evidence after JP Smith and Xanthea Limberg’s offices were raided is false. The party’s secretary general, Brett Herron, says in 2023 Hill-Lewis removed Booi from office, not based on police evidence, but because the matters under investigation were serious enough to warrant immediate action. He says the mayor failed to do the same with Smith and Limberg:
# As part of the ceasefire agreement, Israeli troops have withdrawn from the Netzarim Corridor, a military zone cutting off the north of the Gaza Strip from the south. The corridor was constructed and occupied by the Israeli military to create a strategic, central road intersecting the enclave. In the first hours after the corridor was opened, around 500-thousand displaced Palestinians made the journey back to northern Gaza. Sixteen Israeli hostages and 566 Palestinian prisoners have so far been freed as part of the first phase of the ceasefire.
# Tennis: Four-time Grand Slam champion, Carlos Alcaraz, claimed his first indoor hardcourt title of his career, by winning the Rotterdam Open in the Netherlands on his debut. The 21-year-old Spaniard defeated Australia’s Alex de Minaur, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, to capture his 17th tour-level title. He is the first Spanish champion in the tournament’s 52-year history. Alcaraz says he takes a lot of confidence in his performance in the tournament:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-50-cents and the euro at 19-rand-7-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-93-cents and Bitcoin trades at 97-thousand-012-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-873-dollars-85-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 74-dollars-91-cents a barrel.
