Speaking at the annual general meeting of Business Unity South Africa, he urged continued collaboration to create jobs, reduce poverty, and invest in key sectors like technology and renewable energy. Ramaphosa called for continued support in skills training and small business development to ensure equitable prosperity and sustainable economic progress for all citizens:
# The ANC’s motion of no confidence against Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink will be on council’s agenda this week, with the vote scheduled for tomorrow. Uncertainty remains about ActionSA’s stance, whether they will align with the ANC or stay with the DA-led coalition. Brink has stressed the importance of stable governance in the city:
# The South African Weather Service is calling for enhanced early warning systems to improve community resilience against weather disasters. Speaking at the national consultative workshop for the United Nations-backed Early Warnings for All initiative, SAWS CEO Ishaam Abader highlighted the need to scale up current systems, particularly in rural areas. The three-day event seeks to strengthen early warning dissemination and communication, ensuring that weather alerts reach all communities, including those speaking different languages across South Africa.
# The Department of Employment and Labour in Limpopo has shut down several government offices due to safety concerns. Buildings in Bela-Bela, Makhado, and Thohoyandou were closed following inspections that revealed serious hazards, including structural risks and unsafe electrical installations. The department’s spokesperson, Teboho Thejane, says for the time being, Makhado labour centre services will be available at the Makhado show grounds until next Friday:
# Tennis: The first-round match between 23rd seeded Russian Karen Khachanov and unseeded Briton Daniel Evans made history as the longest encounter ever at the US Open. The game only ended after five-hours-35-minutes after Evans rallied back from love-4 in the final set to clinch it 6-4. Each of the five sets took longer than an hour. The previous record belonged to Sweden’s Stefan Edberg and American Michael Chang, who played for five-hours-26 minutes in the semifinal in 1992 before Edberg won.
