# The DA is urging NERSA to clarify its electricity tariff determination methodology. This comes after NERSA admitted that tariff hikes were based on a flawed interpretation of the law, exacerbating the electricity affordability crisis. DA national spokesperson on Electricity and Energy, Kevin Mileham, plans to push for a review of electricity tariffs in Parliament:
# Business Leadership South Africa CEO Busi Mavuso has attributed progress in South Africa’s electricity sector to private sector investment and partnerships between government and business. She urges similar bold action in the logistics sector, particularly with Transnet, to unlock private sector potential. Mavuso urges the need for greater vision and advocates for concessions in rail corridors and ports, which could drive competition, economic growth, and job creation. She expresses concern, however, over the unclear policy environment for state-owned enterprises.
# The National Sea Rescue Institute says an investigation is underway after the decomposed body of an infant was found on Clifton Beach in Cape Town. The discovery was made on Saturday, prompting a swift response from emergency services. NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon says the body has been handed over to police, urging anyone with information to contact Camps Bay police:
# Italian authorities are questioning the captain of the sunken superyacht after last Monday’s disaster off Sicily. Seven passengers drowned when the anchored British-flagged Bayesian capsized when it encountered a water spout, and sunk within a minute. The captain, 51-year-old James Cutfield, and 14 other people on board survived. New Zealand-born Cutland is reportedly investigated for possible manslaughter and shipwreck charges. Sky News also says a crew member who was on duty, may also be investigated.
# Road running: The Comrades Marathon Association is tackling cyberbullying and defamation after four board members, including chairperson Mqondisi Ngcobo, resigned. Speaking to the media in Comrades House, Pietermaritzburg today, interim chairperson Jeff Minnaar announced potential legal action against perpetrators. He says the association aims to hold individuals accountable and ensure that board members uphold the association’s integrity:
# And, the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-76-cents and the euro at 19-rand-81-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-38-cents and Bitcoin trades at 63-thousand-855-dollars-35-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-525-dollars-24-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 81-dollars-22-cents a barrel.
