Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# Cricket: The West Indies beat South Africa by 30 runs to take an unassailable two-nil lead in their three-match T20 series in Trinidad. The hosts were asked to bat first and posted 179 for six in their 20 overs, with Shai Hope scoring 41. In reply, Reeza Hendricks scored 44 off 18 balls, but player of the match Romario Shepherd took three wickets for 15 runs, as the Proteas were bowled out for 149 in their final over. The final T20 will be played tomorrow.
More news about the sport is that the Proteas Women have convened in Durban for a national training camp, in preparation for the T20 World Cup. This follows a skills camp in Tshwane earlier this month. Interim head coach Dillon du Preez says the camp at Kingsmead will help ensure they have the best possible squad ready for the World Cup, starting in the United Arab Emirates in early October. The tournament was moved to the UAE last week because of the political turmoil in Bangladesh.

George Russell finished in seventh, a place ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton, as McLaren’s Lando Norris won the race. Mercedes claimed victories at three of the last four races before the summer break. Wolff says there could be a few factors in play that contributed to the non-performance in Zandvoort:
# Tennis: Novak Djokovic has joined the discussion on doping cases after Jannik Sinner escaped suspension after testing positive for a banned substance. With the American Open starting today, the Serbian champion calls for clear protocols and standardised approaches. The Italian world number one twice tested positive for clostebol – a steroid that can be used to build muscle mass – in March. Sinner was cleared after his now fired physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi admitted inadvertently using the over-the-counter substance on his hands before a treatment.
# And, golf: New Zealand’s Lydia Ko won the Women’s British Open at St Andrews by two shots, ending her eight-year major drought. The 27-year-old, who won the Olympic gold medal in Paris, overturned a three-stroke deficit during the final round and closed with a three-under-par 69 to win her third major. Defending champion, American Lilia Vu, finished joint second alongside her compatriot Nelly Korda, South Korea’s Jiyai Shin, and China’s Ruoning Yin. Ko says winning feels surreal:
