# Impact-led production studio, Habitat XR, is offering its 3D printing services to wildlife rehabilitation centres in Southern Africa by creating prosthetics for injured animals. This initiative aims to enhance the lives of animals like turtles or crocodiles. The studio provides 3D scanning, design and printing at no cost, subject to assessment. They say this groundbreaking effort promises a new lease on life for many animals.
# The Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds in Cape Town is celebrating a milestone following the release of one-thousand African Penguin hatchlings back into the wild this year. The foundation that artificially incubate and hatch eggs, highlighted their crucial role in preventing the extinction of this endangered species. The foundation says this achievement underscores its ongoing dedication to seabird conservation.
# Accounting students at the University of the Witwatersrand’s newly renamed Margo Steele School of Accountancy have received a donation of around 180-million-rand over the next ten years. The donation, from an anonymous donor and alumnus of the school, was made in honour of professor Margo Steele, who served as the first female head of the school. The university’s professor Zubair Wadee says the impact this donation will have on the 140 missing middle accounting students is immeasurable.
# Grammy award-winning country superstar Carrie Underwood is set to join American Idol as a judge for its 23rd season next year. She will replace Katy Perry, who departed last season after seven seasons with the show. Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan are expected back as judges. Underwood, who won American Idol in 2005, has eight Grammy Awards and a combined 25 Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association awards and eight albums.
# And finally, New Zealand’s Lotto Powerball jackpot will reach an estimated 357-million-rand on Saturday. This is the second biggest jackpot this year after seven people shared 540-million-rand in June. This meant all of them took home 77.8-million-rand. New Zealand Herald reports the longest Powerball jackpot run in the country reached 24 roll-overs before it was won. Thirteen players have already become New Zealand dollar multi-millionaires this year.
