# The DA says it will file a complaint with the office of the Public Protector over the ANC’s abuse of public resources for election manipulation. The party has accused the ANC and its president, Cyril Ramaphosa, of manipulating South Africans by making promises about job creation using a taxpayer-funded scheme. DA leader John Steenhuisen says during an ANC campaign event at the weekend, Ramaphosa promised 500-thousand skilled training and job opportunities using a taxpayer-funded scheme. He says the ruling party must be held accountable.
# Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Maropene Ramokgopa, says healthy trade relations remain instrumental in addressing poverty, inequality, and unemployment. More than 60 Chinese-invested enterprises took part in the 2024 Job Fair held at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Gauteng yesterday. China is South Africa’s largest global trading partner. Ramokgopa says more than 200 Chinese-invested companies in South Africa have created more than 400-thousand local jobs:
# RISE Mzansi in the Eastern Cape is calling for the provincial Department of Health to be placed under administration to stem further financial mismanagement. This follows reports of outstanding payments to suppliers amounting to an estimated 4.8-billion-rand from the previous financial year, coupled with a 50-million-rand unpaid phone bill. RISE Mzansi’s Pumla Ngesi says Health minister Joe Phaahla must take urgent action:
# The United Arab Emirates experienced torrential rainfall and flooding yesterday, in what the government has described as the largest amount of rainfall in the past 75 years. More than 142- millimetres of rain soaked Dubai over just 12 hours. Dubai International Airport, recently crowned the second-busiest airport in the world, diverted planes as its tarmac was under water. The flagship shopping centres Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates both suffered flooding. The UAE government says the downpours were an exceptional climate event.
# Golf: Four-time major winner Rory McIlroy has rejected reports that he is on the verge of joining LIV Golf. London financial paper City AM reported at the weekend that the Northern Irishman had been offered 16.3-billion-rand to join the Saudi Arabian-backed circuit. McIlroy, who has been one of LIV Golf’s most vocal critics since the breakaway tour was launched in 2022, says he will play on the PGA Tour for the rest of his career:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 19-rand-5-cents and the euro at 20-rand-26-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-75-cents and Bitcoin trades at 63-thousand-762-dollars-10-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-380-dollars-22-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 89-dollars-75-cents a barrel.
