Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# We start off with cycling: The 46th Cape Town Cycle Tour will take place this weekend and motorists are being warned of several road closures. Routes along the Cape Town CBD, including Darling, Strand, Adderley and Riebeek Streets, will be affected. In Green Point, Helen Suzman Boulevard from Beach Road to the traffic circle will also be affected.
# Rugby: Scotland coach Gregor Townsend has urged his team to raise their game to fresh heights as they bid for a first top-two finish in the Six Nations era. Townsend’s side is second on the log behind Ireland, a point above England and three clear of France. They have matches away to Italy and Grand Slam-chasing Ireland in the concluding two rounds of the championship. Even if Scotland wins in Rome tomorrow, Ireland would make sure of consecutive titles if they secure a bonus-point win over England at Twickenham later in the day.
More rugby news: Fiji’s governing body has dismissed the head coach of the sevens team, just four months before the start of the Olympic Games in Paris. Ben Gollings has been replaced by Osea Kolinisau, who was captain when Fiji won gold at the 2016 Games in Rio. The country also won the competition at the Tokyo Games. The union says Gollings didn’t meet the desired standards. Fiji is currently third in the sevens world series standings after not being able to win a single tournament this season.
# Tennis: Two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep has confirmed she will make her competitive return at the Miami Open, which begins on the 17th of this month. The 32-year-old Romanian has accepted a wildcard entry into the tournament in Florida. Halep’s return comes after the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced her four-year doping ban to nine months, which she has already served. The former world number one says she cannot wait to be back on court and compete again.
# And finally, motorsport: Red Bull Formula One boss Christian Horner says it is time to draw a line under the controversy surrounding him and focus on racing. The 50-year-old was recently cleared following an investigation into alleged inappropriate behaviour made against him by a female colleague. His accuser has now been suspended with full pay. Horner says this has been a very trying period for him and his family:
